Ordering repeat prescriptions
We are a dispensing practice. Three of our surgeries dispense medicines (Grange Park does not) and surgery prescriptions are usually dispensed as soon as you have seen the doctor.
Repeat prescriptions are computerised. To order a repeat of your drugs you may:
- Follow the link on this page to the online form
- Send a written note or hand in the computer slip
- Fax through your repeat request on fax no:
- (01604) 862129 Roade Surgery
- (01604) 878005 Blisworth Surgery
- (01908) 511662 Hanslope Surgery
- (01604) 742411 Grange Park Surgery
We no longer accept telephone requests for repeat prescriptions unless you are elderly, infirm or housebound.
Collecting your prescription
You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it.
You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.
You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:
- on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
- at your GP practice
- at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions
Online Repeat Prescribing
- From 1st April 2015 the practice will be using SystmOnline. This system enables you to view and order your repeat medication, 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
- To register please visit your usual surgery with identification and the receptionist will assist you. Once you have registered please follow the link ABOVE.
- Please allow two working days for your request to be processed but, in an emergency, items can be collected at short notice. Please try and collect items within one week of ordering them as shelf space to
- store dispensed items is limited.
Questions about your prescription
If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.
The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.
If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription:
- phone our pharmacist after 10am on 0123 445 6678
- fill in our medication query form.
Medication reviews
A medication review is a meeting with your doctor, or nurse (depending on the medication) to talk about your medicines.
Your medicines should be reviewed regularly (usually every 6 months) to check that they are right for you.
Why are medicines reviews needed?
When you are first prescribed a medicine, your doctor, pharmacist and/or nurse checks that it is the best medicine for you. However, things can change, for example:
-You might have developed a side effect from the medicine.
- Your health might have changed, such as developing a long-term condition.
- You might have started taking other additional medicines.
- The guidelines for treating your condition might have changed.
- You may be taking a large number of medications.
- A medication you are on may be no longer essential for your health day to day.
Dispensing
With the exception of Grange Park Surgery, we have provision to dispense to patients who live in the villages. The Health Service regulations on this matter are very strict and this service can only be
offered to those patients who register as dispensing when they join the practice or when they move house.
For further information, please telephone any of the surgeries and a member of dispensing staff
will be pleased to answer your enquiries.

What to do with old medicines
Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
About pharmacists
As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:
- coughs
- colds
- sore throats
- tummy trouble
- aches and pains
They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.
Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
